Occupational Therapists work with children and their families to promote independence and active participation in activities (occupations) that are necessary and meaningful to them. Occupation refers to activities that support the health, well-being, and development of an individual (American Occupational Therapy Association, 2014). By addressing the underlying skills necessary for these activities, occupational therapists are able to improve a child's ability to participate in their daily life.
Suma Kids, Inc. provides one to one therapy sessions, utilizing a child directed, play-based approach. Children enjoy coming to the clinic to "play" while they work on improving underlying skills necessary to thrive in their daily lives! We also provide parents with plenty of tools and information to transfer the skills gained in therapy to everyday life in the home environment.
